The Singing Fish

Q u'Tu Pu guarded the Fountain of Chang Qwan with care even though no young maidens were around to wash his clothes. But this did not provoke Qu'Tu, for he knew that there were other villages where the goat cheese was not as hard. Time does that to a fountain.

Needless to say, Qu'Tu did imbibe from the fountain's glorious waters. This made trouble, for with each heavenly swallow of the water more and more villagers cried out in agony. Qu'Tu had erred.

"What horrible mistake have I incurred upon myself?", asked Qu'Tu. But his reflections were to late, for the Golden Body of the Singing Fish could be seen materializing beneath the shimmering waters of the fountain. And it is known that this bizarre event dose not happen unless an evil doing has occurred, and this was so, for Qu'Tu had not adorned his cattle with the Wheat of Mookdia earlier that morning as his parents requested.

"So, it is YOU who dare consume the Water from the Fountain of Chang Qwan!", exclaimed the Singing Fish, "Have you no honor? Your village suffers endlessly and you sit here, entrails bursting with liquid. As the sky rains down like soil, so shall the oranges be made ripper. You disgust me in an unwholesome way, so now you must pay the piper!"

Several days later... Chin Tai guarded the Fountain of Qu'Tu Pu with care even though no young maidens were around to wash his feet. But this did not irritate Chin, for he knew that there were other villages where the rice cakes were not as flavorless. Time does that to a fountain...
